Redact PDF

Hide your Aadhaar number, account details or a name before you share a PDF. Drag a black box over it, or find every match in one go. What’s under the box is removed from the file, and the result is checked before you download it.

Black boxes that really remove

Removed, then checked

The words under each box are taken out of the file, along with links and form fields there, and the title and author are cleared. The saved copy is then checked; a page with a photo or drawing under a box is turned into a picture so nothing can be recovered.

Find Aadhaar, PAN and more

One tap marks every Aadhaar number, PAN, phone number, email address or long account number on every page. Add a name or address of your own, then check each box before saving.

Private by design

Your PDF is opened, redacted and saved by your own browser. The details you’re hiding are never sent to us or anyone else.

How to redact a PDF

  1. Open your PDF

Drop it on the box above or pick it from your phone or computer.

  2. Mark what to hide

Drag over anything private, tap a line of text, or use Find and redact to mark every Aadhaar or PAN number at once.

  3. Check the boxes

Boxes are see-through while you work so you can check each one. Drag a corner to make one bigger; tap Delete to remove one.

  4. Save and download

Press Save PDF. Everything under the boxes is removed and the file is checked before you download it.

Questions

Is this real redaction or just a black box?

Real redaction. A black box drawn in most editors only hides the text: anyone can copy it out from underneath. Here the letters under each box are taken out of the file, and the saved copy is checked. If anything readable is still there, such as a scanned photo of a card, that page is replaced by a picture of itself so the hidden part can’t be recovered.

Can it find my Aadhaar or PAN number automatically?

Yes. Choose the kinds of details under Find and redact (Aadhaar numbers, PAN numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, account and card numbers), add any name or word, and press Mark them for redaction. Every match on every page gets a box you can check before saving. It reads the PDF’s text, so it won’t find details inside a scanned photo; box those by hand.

Should I mask Aadhaar fully or show the last four digits?

Many places accept a “masked Aadhaar” that shows only the last four digits. To do that, drag a box over the first eight digits only. For anything you share publicly, hiding the whole number is safest.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Yes, by hand: drag a box over the part of the page to hide. Because a scanned page is a picture, that page is turned into a new picture with the black box burned in, so the details can’t be recovered. Find and redact can’t see words in a scan; run Scan to text (OCR) first if you want to search it.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The whole job happens in your browser. That matters most for exactly the documents you redact.

Can I undo a redaction after saving?

No, and that’s the point: what’s under the boxes is gone from the saved copy. Your original file isn’t changed, so keep it somewhere safe if you might need it.
